Fort Worth Zoo warns public of scam offering fake discounted tickets on social media

The Fort Worth Zoo wants to warn the public of a scam offering people fake discounted tickets in honor of the zoo’s anniversary, zoo officials said in a social media post Tuesday.

The zoo said in a post on Instagram that anyone who encounters an ad or other offer for tickets should avoid and ignore them. Several zoos and aquariums across the country have also been targeted by similar scams that are being shared on social media, according to the post.

The zoo reminds everyone that admission tickets can only be purchased through the zoo’s website or in person at the ticket booth.

The public is also urged to report all fraudulent social media ads and platforms offering these discounts.

The scam comes just as Fort Worth ISD and TCU are off for spring break this week, which is a busy time for the Fort Worth Zoo.

An electronic billboard outside the entrance to the Fort Worth Zoo on Monday read, “Spring break traffic, expect delays.”

In preparation for an influx of visitors to Fort Worth, the city reopened all six lanes of traffic on South University Drive between the I-30 overpass and Riverfront Drive.

The inner lanes of both north and southbound University are milled, or rough, but drivable. All South University Drive lanes will remain open until March 18.
