Fort Smith police make burglary arrest

The Fort Smith Police Department arrested a second residential burglary suspect on Monday, April 30, 2018.

On Friday, April 27, officers responded to a burglary call on North 44th Street. Witnesses said two white men were taking items from inside the home and loading them into a Chevy Cobalt.

Police said the suspects had left the scene before they arrived, but were located a short time later.

Officers said the suspects sped away from police, and they did not pursue because of public safety reasons.

Police located one suspect and arrested William Waylan Winters, 34, on Friday. Winters was charged with an unrelated warrant and one count of Burglary.

On Monday, detectives said they obtained information on the second suspect's whereabouts. Officers with the Patrol and Criminal Investigations Division arrested John Crossno Jr., 39, after a foot pursuit and struggle.

Crossno is being held in the Sebastian County Jail on a $12,000 bond. He faces charges of residential burglary, fleeing apprehension with injury, resisting arrest and carrying a weapon.
