Fort Hood Soldier Allegedly Kills Marine Intervening in a Domestic Dispute Outside a Texas Walgreens: Police

A good Samaritan was shot and killed Monday when he intervened in an alleged violent domestic dispute outside a Walgreens pharmacy in Texas, PEOPLE confirms.

The man, identified as Anthony "T.J." Antell, was at the Arlington, Texas, pharmacy when 22-year-old suspect Ricci Bradden shot his wife during a parking lot confrontation, the Arlington Police Department said in a press release and arrest warrant affidavit obtained by PEOPLE.

Antell, a 35-year-old CrossFit gym owner who served as a Marine, witnessed Bradden shoot his wife in the foot and retrieved a gun from his car to try and stop Bradden from leaving the scene, according to the documents. Bradden then shot Antell while Antell's wife watched from their car. Antell was later pronounced dead on the scene by investigators at 11:49 a.m., police said.

"He went into a protective mode," Antell's pastor, Marc Lawrence told Fox4 News. "He's a father. He is protective by nature. He thought he could help everyone involved and tragically it went a different way."

Bradden, currently a U.S. Army soldier at Fort Hood, fled the scene in a car, but later turned himself in at a Hill County Texas Department of Public Safety station.

Police said that Bradden was visiting his wife, 22-year-old Quinisha Shermon Johnson, at the Walgreens where she works when they got into the argument. While fleeing the scene, police say Bradden called several Army supervisors and confessed to the crime.

"Detectives have secured an arrest warrant for murder with initial bond set at $500,000," the police press release said. "Once the suspect has been arraigned, he will be transported to Tarrant County."

Antell was a father of three, according to the GoFundMe account created in his honor. The funds will help raise money for the family to plan a memorial, as well as to complete work on a second CrossFit gym location that Antell was opening.
