Fort Carson hosts war dog memorial fun run to honor K-9 veterans

(FORT CARSON, Colo.) — An event to honor K-9 veterans and their handlers will be taking place at the Fort Carson Army Post at 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 9, rain or shine. The War Dog Memorial Fun Run will include both a 5k and a one-mile course and is open to all Department of Defense ID cardholders and their guests.

For those who wish to attend and receive a swag bag, registration is $20 per person ages four years and up. For those who do not wish to receive a swag bag, and for those three years and under, registration is free. Swag bags contain a limited-edition war dog t-shirt and sticker.

Dogs must remain on leashes and any dog showing aggression or presenting a threat to participants or their dogs will be removed from the event. The race route is on both asphalt and dirt terrain and is stroller-friendly.

County, state, and federal civilian concealed-carry permits are not recognized or valid at Fort Carson. All weapons brought onto the installation must be registered with the provost marshal’s office at building 2700 per U.S. Army and Fort Carson regulations and policy.

Marijuana use is illegal on federal installations, despite the Colorado amendment legalizing it within the state, and is not allowed at the event.
