Fort Campbell soldier accused of selling information to China returns to court for detention hearing

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A Fort Campbell soldier accused of selling United States military secrets to China made another appearance in court Friday.

Sgt. Korbein Schultz spent the first 10 minutes debriefing with his defense attorney. He was dressed in a green jumpsuit and seemed serious but casual in his conversation.

The detention hearing was brief, as the defense waived the hearing, and the judge ruled Schultz would remain in the custody of the United States Marshals.

During that time, from June 2022 until his arrest last week, Schultz allegedly provided classified manuals and documents related to Air Force tactics and techniques for a fighter aircraft, helicopter, and intercontinental ballistic missiles to China.

In a statement from Capt. Steve Nava, Deputy Public Affairs Officer and Spokesperson for the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) said, “His previous awards include the Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon and the Army Service Ribbon. We have and will continue to cooperate with the US Attorney’s Office.
