By 10 p.m. Tuesday, all but the write-in votes had been counted and Forrester had received 3,663 votes compared to 2,488 votes for Brooks. Fellow Republican candidates Evan Hauser received 1,242 votes and Roger Miller, 512 in the race for chancellor, which was the only contested race within one primary. It is also one of the two local races that was decided on Tuesday - the other being the uncontested property assessor race. Republican John K. Alley Jr. was seeking re-election and faced no challengers in the Republican or Democratic party primaries. He received 6,929 votes.

Brooks will continue to serve until Aug. 31.

All of the other local races had one candidate in the Republican party, and sometimes a candidate in the Democratic party. The winners of those primaries will compete in the Anderson County General Election on Aug. 1. They'll also face any candidates who are listed as independents, according to Mark Stephens, election commission administrator. The deadline for candidates to qualify in the Aug. 1 election is noon April 4. Residents who are not registered to vote have until July 2 to register with the election commission if they wish to vote in that election.
