Several former teammates on Monday publicly mourned the stunning passing of ex-Dolphins cornerback Vontae Davis, who was found dead in a Broward mansion.

Davis was 35.

On Monday morning, Davie police responded to the home, located at the 6000 block of Southwest 178th Avenue in Southwest Ranches. They were called to the mansion by the house assistant, who found Davis unresponsive.

Investigators say they don’t suspect foul play, but the investigation is ongoing. According to public records, Davis has lived at the Southwest Ranches home since 2016.

Former Colts punter and ESPN celebrity Pat McAfee, who played with Davis in Indianapolis, discussed Davis on his ESPN program on Monday.

“Vontae was an incredibly cool dude, good guy, nice guy,” McAfee said. “Upbeat guy, energetic guy. What we remember him for was being an incredibly cool teammate in that locker room and being a guy all of us enjoyed being around.

“The thought of Vontae sitting in hot tub or cold tub,... everyone recalls how he retired, at halftime of a game, was hilarious. [That was] such as Vontae move. If you knew him, you loved him.

“I haven’t talked to him in months and obviously won’t be able to again. Rest in peace Vontae. It was a tough morning.”

Former Colts cornerback Darius Butler, appearing with McAfee, said of his former teammate:

“It’s [expletive] up [for this to happen at such a young age]. Thirty-five years old, birthday around the corner…

“He kind of lived his life to the beat of his own drum and it’s tough when you transition out [of the NFL] you’ve got to deal with life. You go so long living the dream… Then when you go into real life… it’s tough...

”You never know what people are going through, what they’re dealing with... Obviously sending my heart and condolences to his family, his loved ones, his friends, all his former teammates who have been reaching out. … It’s a tough time right now.”

Former FIU receiver T.Y. Hilton, who played with Davis in Indianapolis, said on social media: “I still can’t believe you gone. I don’t wanna believe you gone! My head hurt so bad. RIP VD.”

Former Miami Hurricanes receiver Reggie Wayne, who played with Davis in Indianapolis, said on the social media platform X about Davis: “Sad Day. We used to battle everyday in practice. Sometimes it ended in a bunch of bickering and almost fights.

“We got each other better. It was a pleasure wearing the horseshoe with you homie. Rest easy “Champ.” Praying for your family and love ones.”

Former Colts long snapper Matt Overton said: “So saddened by the news of Vontae Davis. Such a great man, and it was an honor to be teammates. May we pray for God to comfort the Davis family during this heartbreaking time.”

Drafted by the Dolphins 25th overall in 2009, Davis spent his first three NFL seasons with Miami before being traded in August 2012 to Indianapolis for a second-round pick and a conditional sixth-round pick.
