Former State Delegate Matt Farris acquitted of charges in 2023 hit-and-run

CAMPBELL COUNTY, Va. (WFXR)—Former State Delegate Matt Fariss was acquitted on charges concerning a hit-and-run incident in Campbell County on March 2, 2023.

On March 2, Fariss was driving south on Route 501 in his 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe when he allegedly crossed over the centerline, continued off the northbound side of Route 501, and hit a female pedestrian. Fariss then allegedly proceeded to leave the scene before emergency responders arrived.

Fariss turned himself into Virginia State Police and was charged with Malicious Wounding, Hit-and-Run, and Reckless Driving.

A jury with the Campbell Circuit Court reached a verdict on Tuesday, March 5 following a continuing trial. Fariss’ original charges were dismissed and instead, the jury convicted him on a reduced charge of improper driving charge, which included a $500 fine.
