Former Spencerville superintendent indicted
May 15—SPENCERVILLE — A former Spencerville superintendent was indicted by a Logan County grand jury for gross sexual imposition and attempted sexual battery, both fourth-degree felonies, on Tuesday.
Current Spencerville Superintendent Brian Woods sent out a message to parents about the indictment of Dennis Fuge, 66, who retired as superintendent in 2019 after 39 years with the school district. Fuge was also on the district's substitute teacher list. Woods confirmed the charges stemmed from an interaction with a student in the district.
"The district was first notified about this matter in late March, shortly after the incident allegedly took place. We have been fully cooperating with law enforcement since then, and immediately took other actions to protect our students, including removing Mr. Fuge from our roster of substitute teachers," Woods wrote.
"At this time, we are unaware of any other incidents involving Mr. Fuge that law enforcement may be investigating, but we have been asked to urge any student, parent, guardian or staff member who has concerns about other individuals who may been affected to contact Logan County Sheriff Detective, Adam Wood, at 937-592-5731, to discuss those concerns on a confidential basis.
"We want to do everything we can to protect the safety of our students — whether they are on school grounds, involved in a school activity, or elsewhere in the community. This is just a reminder that our school counselors, classroom teachers and other members of our staff are always available to speak privately and confidentially with any student who has concerns about his or her personal safety. Any information we receive will be acted upon promptly and appropriately," Woods wrote.
Fuge will be arraigned in Bellefontaine on May 23.
