Sen. Tommy Tuberville on Monday slammed the prosecutors in Donald Trump’s hush money trial and told them to give the former president “some respect.”

“I'm disappointed in the courtroom. I'm hearing, ‘Mr. Trump, Mr. Trump.’ He is ‘former President Trump.’ Give him some respect,” the Alabama Republican said outside the Manhattan courthouse.

Tuberville called the courtroom proceedings “depressing,” and accused prosecutors of trying to push “mental anguish” on Trump during an election year.

“It is depressing. That courtroom is depressing,” Tuberville said. “Mental anguish is trying to be pushed on the Republican candidate for the president of the United States this year.”

Tuberville, who has been a staunch supporter of the former president, said he wasn’t there to support him as a presidential candidate, but as a friend.

“I'm glad to stand by President Trump,” Tuberville said. “I'm a friend of his. I'm here more as a friend than backing him as candidate, as president.”
