Former New Orleans Police Department officer killed in line of duty in Tucson

TUCSON, Ariz. (WGNO) — A former New Orleans Police Department officer was killed in a crash while working in Tucson, Arizona on Sunday, March 31.

The Tucson Police Department reported that 31-year-old Adam Buckner was responding to a call in his patrol car, with his emergency lights and siren activated, when a car reportedly ran a red light and crashed into Buckner’s car, causing it to hit a traffic signal pole.

Buckner suffered life-threatening injuries was taken to a Tucson hospital, where he later died.

According to the TPD, Bucker got his start in law enforcement at the NOPD in 2017 before joining the TPD in 2021.

In a statement, NOPD Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick said:

“On behalf of the New Orleans Police Department, we are profoundly saddened by the tragic loss of Officer Adam Buckner, a valued member of our law enforcement family. Officer Buckner, a well liked graduate of NOPD Academy Class 183, served with distinction during his time with NOPD. Today, we also mourn his passing as an officer with the Tucson Police Department, where he continued his dedicated service. Our hearts go out to Officer Buckner’s loved ones, friends, and colleagues during this incredibly difficult time. His memory and legacy will forever be cherished within our department and beyond.”

Buckner is survived by his wife, mother, sister and three brothers.
