Former Oklahoma DB Parrish Cobb sentenced to 18 years in prison for robbery
Former Oklahoma defensive back Parrish Cobb was sentenced to 18 years in prison on Monday after being implicated in four different robberies — including an armed robbery of a Baylor student, according the Waco Tribune-Herald.
The 20-year-old pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery of the Baylor student. Per the Waco Tribune-Herald, that plea bargain dismissed two other armed robbery charges against him. The fourth robbery charge is still pending.
Cobb was first arrested in January after a string of three robberies from Jan. 7 through Jan. 10 in the Waco, Texas, area. Baylor police first reported a robbery on Jan. 7 where a student was robbed at gunpoint on the Baylor campus. Two robberies took place on Jan. 10, one just blocks away from campus and another at a convenience store.
Following his suspension from the team, Cobb was arrested again in April in Norman, Oklahoma. He was “accused of entering a residence, pointing semi-automatic handguns at a man and his roommate before stealing cash and drugs and leaving on foot.” That charge is still pending.
Ayorinde Jelani Gibson was also sentenced to 18 years in prison in connection with one of the robberies.
Cobb played in four games and had seven tackles as a freshman for the Sooners in 2016, and was suspended from the team in January 2017 after his arrest. The four-star recruit originally committed to Baylor, but was granted a release after former Baylor coach Art Briles was fired amid a massive sexual assault scandal. Cobb then signed with OU a week after getting his release from Baylor.
Cobb can seek parole after serving at least nine years of his sentence.
