Former North Augusta High School teacher accused of distributing child sexual abuse material

May 23—A former North Augusta High School teacher has been accused of possessing and distributing child sexual abuse material.

Aiken Public Safety officers arrested Charles Richard Wilson, 58, Wednesday.

Wilson has been charged with five counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor.

Investigators made the arrest after receiving a CyberTipline report from the National Center for Missing Children and Exploited Children, according to a news release from South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson's office.

The CyberTip came from an IP address within the Aiken city limits, according to a police report.

Wilson began teaching at the school in May 2023 according to a statement from the school district. He was placed on administrative leave Wednesday, the district added.

No reported concerns or employee infractions were reported during his employment, the district said.

Second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor is a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison for each count.

Alan Wilson's office will prosecute the case.

An Aiken County magistrate set bond at $4,000 for each count.
