A former Boone County deputy jailer, who admitted to recording female inmates performing sex acts at his request in exchange for favorable treatment, has avoided prison time.

On Wednesday, Trenton Westfall received a five-year sentence probated five years, according to Courtney Baxter, commonwealth’s attorney for Henry, Oldham and Trimble counties, who was appointed to the case as a special prosecutor.

Court records show 28-year-old Westfall pleaded guilty in April to two counts of promoting contraband and numerous official misconduct charges. In exchange for his plea, prosecutors agreed to drop charges of video voyeurism and sexual abuse.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Office started investigating Westfall in June 2023 after jail officials reported possible criminal activity by a deputy jailer.

Investigators found Westfall befriended several female inmates and used the jail’s text messaging system and phone calls to communicate with the women, according to a criminal citation.

Those communications showed that Westfall’s relationship with the women became intimate and he asked them to perform sex acts so he could watch, investigators said, adding that he used a phone to record an inmate performing such acts on at least two occasions.

In return, Westfall gave the inmates preferential treatment, investigators said. When interviewed by authorities, Westfall admitted texting three women and soliciting the number of a fourth who wasn’t interested in his advances.

Investigators said the acts began in late November 2022.

The Enquirer has left messages with Westfall’s attorney requesting comment.

As a condition of his sentence, Westfall cannot seek future employment at a prison or jail, nor can he have contact with such institutions.

Should Westfall violate the conditions of his probation or be convicted of a new crime, his probation could be revoked and he’ll face the possibility of prison.
