Former Henderson assistant principal held on $100K bond in Texas on child sex charges out of Nevada

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The former assistant principal of Del Webb Middle School in Henderson is currently being held in a North Texas jail on a $100,000 bond tied to child sex crimes from Nevada.

Henderson assistant principal fleeing sexual misconduct charges arrested in Texas

According to Ellis County jail records, Howard Hughes, 61, is facing three counts of online solicitation of a minor for sex and three counts of indecency with a child. His charges in Henderson are three counts of contacting a minor by a person of authority for sex.

These charges stem from an investigation started by the Clark County School District Police Department in March 2024. Hughes was hired by the district in 2022. Local law enforcement went to Hughes’s home on Wednesday, March 20 to make an arrest but learned he fled to Texas and resigned from his school job. U.S. Marshals in Texas caught up with him two days later and took him into custody.

Police documents show that Hughes made inappropriate and sexual comments to a student which were recorded. Hughes is expected to be extradited to Clark County.
