Former Gonzaga standout Rui Hachimura shines as Lakers upset Grizzlies in Game 1

Apr. 16—Former Gonzaga star Rui Hachimura came off the bench and led the Los Angeles Lakers in scoring during a 128-112 win over the Memphis Grizzlies in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.

Hachimura scored 29 points, made 11 of 14 attempts from the field and hit 5 of 6 3-pointers at FedEx Forum in Memphis, Tennessee.

Hachimura, playing in his second career playoff series, made all four 3-point attempts in the third quarter to build Los Angeles' lead. He set a Lakers postseason record for most points scored off the bench.

Memphis forward Desmond Bane wasn't impressed.

"It was probably the best game he's had in his career," Bane said. "It's a seven-game series, let's see if he can do it again on Wednesday."

Hachimura was one of four Lakers with over 20 points, along with Austin Reaves (23), Anthony Davis (22) and LeBron James (21).

Davis and James did more than score for seventh-seeded Los Angeles.

Davis had 12 rebounds, seven blocks and three steals. James had 11 rebounds, five assists, three blocks and two steals.

Memphis star Ja Morant exited the game in the fourth quarter with a hand injury, but X-rays were negative.
