Former general manager Brian Burke says farewell to Toronto Maple Leafs

TORONTO - Brian Burke said goodbye to the Maple Leafs during a press conference at Toronto's Air Canada Centre.

Burke, the former president and general manager of the Leafs who was fired Wednesday, thanked the current and former owners of the team, as well as his staff, players and former coach Ron Wilson for their effort during his four-year tenure.

"Our team motto is 'no complaints, no excuses' and I have none," said Burke.

Surprisingly, Burke thanked the media for what he says was generally fair and balanced coverage. He'd had a contentious relationship with several local journalists.

Burke was replaced by Dave Nonis.
