Former DJJ employee accused of forging marriage license in Horry County

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — A former South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice employee is accused of forgery to obtain a marriage license in Horry County 17 years ago, according to warrants from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.

Yolanda Deitra Reid of Columbia was charged with forgery, no dollar amount. She was booked into the J. Reuben Long Detention Center on Thursday.

In June 2007, Reid allegedly committed forgery to obtained a marriage license for herself and Donald Reid Jr., who at the time was an inmate in Richland County, South Carolina, according to SLED.

On June 6, 2007, a marriage ceremony was performed outside of the South Carolina Department of Corrections, but Reid was not present for it, SLED said. His signature was forged on the marriage license, which Yolanda Reid allegedly submitted to the Horry County Probate Court as true on June 7, 2007.

A marriage certificate was then issued that same day, SLED said. Donald Reid admitted in separate interviews in May 2023 that he was not present for the wedding and that Yolanda Reid had arranged for a third party to stand in for him during the ceremony.
