Former Covington school employee arrested, accused of cruelty to juveniles

COVINGTON, La. (WGNO) — A former Covington elementary school employee has been arrested in connection with a cruelty to juveniles investigation on Thursday, May 23.
The Covington Police Department reported officers launched the investigation after receiving a report of a “concerning incident involving a student” and a paraprofessional, identified by the CPD as Monica Bates, at E. E. Lyon Elementary School.

According to the CPD, the incident allegedly happened while Bates was supervising the student during school hours.
Bates was arrested and faces a charge of cruelty to juveniles.
