Former CBS Middle East bureau chief, horse racing writer Ed Hotaling dies at 75

NEW YORK (AP) -- A family member says Ed Hotaling, a network news journalist and author of several books including "They're Off! Horse racing at Saratoga," has died.

Greg Hotaling says his father died of heart failure Monday at the age of 75. He had been in a Staten Island nursing home since a serious car accident in 2007.

Born and raised in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., Hotaling worked in Iran, France, Greece and Israel as a young man. He was later Middle East bureau chief at CBS and McGraw-Hill World News. Among other things, he covered the Arab-Israeli Six-Day War in 1967. He also worked for an NBC affiliate in Washington.
