Former assistant scoutmaster from Virginia Beach guilty in child sexual abuse material case

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A former Boy Scouts of America assistant scoutmaster from Virginia Beach has pleaded guilty to receiving child sexual abuse material.

This comes less than a year after the Virginia Beach Police Department first identified Andrew Harris Reshefsky was a distributor and recipient of the abuse material, according to the Department of Justice.

The DOJ says on August 17, 2023, VBPD officers executed a search warrant at Reshefsky’s home and seized several electronic devices. They said he had numerous videos and images of child sexual abuse material spanning several years, including images obtained via WhatsApp messages from 2021 and 2022.

Reshefsky now faces a mandatory minimum of five years and a maximum of twenty years in prison. Reshefsky’s public LinkedIn page shows he was with the Boy Scouts for more than two decades, dating back to April 2000. He also listed previous positions with local school districts.
