Former Appleton Police Officer found guilty on forgery and misconduct charges

APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) – A former Appleton Police Officer was back in Outagamie County Court on Tuesday for a plea and sentencing hearing related to forgery and misconduct charges.

While working as an officer, 37-year-old Jeremy R. Haney forged the signatures of a judge and an assistant district attorney during a large-scale drug investigation.

Wisconsin woman in custody after traffic stop leads to discovery of methamphetamine

Haney pleaded no contest to the charges, and the judge found him guilty of felony misconduct in office. Both the prosecution and defense asked for no jail time, although Haney will have to pay a $500 fine and write letters of apology to the victims.

The felony charge means Haney will no longer be able to serve as a police officer, possess a firearm, or vote in elections.

The top vehicle safety regulator in the U.S. has launched a formal probe into an April crash involving the all-electric VinFast VF8 SUV that claimed the lives of a family of four, TechCrunch has learned. A spokesperson for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) told TechCrunch on Monday that its Special Crash Investigations division will "document the crash circumstances and the ensuing fire." The victims, who have been identified by the Alameda County Sheriff's Department as Tarun and Rincy George, and their two children, did not own the vehicle.
