Former APD Chief Joseph Chacon hired as Pflugerville emergency director

PFLUGERVILLE, Texas (KXAN) — Former Austin Police Chief Joseph Chacon has taken a new role as Pflugerville’s Director of Emergency Services, the City of Pflugerville told KXAN Friday.

Chacon started in the role Dec. 18. In September 2023, Chacon retired from APD after 25 years of service and two years leading the department.

“With 25 years as a Pflugerville resident and former Austin police chief, Chacon brings a wealth of experience to this crucial role,” the City said. “As a longtime resident, he understands the unique needs of Pflugerville, ensuring that safety and well-being remain paramount.”

The emergency services director coordinates the city’s disaster response and emergency preparedness among other emergency-related responsibilities.

The City said Chacon is “committed to enhancing emergency preparedness” and will develop and implement “comprehensive plans to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.”
