Forest Heights police officer shot suspect who had a knife

PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) — The Forest Heights Police Department said an officer was involved in a shooting Monday evening.

The shooting happened in the 200 block of Oxon Hill Road around 5:30 p.m.

There, several Forest Heights officers stopped a car that was linked to a suspect who was wanted for assault out of a nearby jurisdiction. They asked the suspect to step out of the car but they refused. Eventually the person did get out but they were armed with a knife.

Police said during the encounter, an officer shot the suspect.

FBI launches criminal investigation into Key Bridge collapse

The suspect was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Witnesses told DC News Now that they heard about six gunshots being fired.

The Prince George’s County Police Department was asked to oversee the investigation.
