Forecast winter storm to hit Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park

SEQUOIA NATIONAL PARK, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A winter storm is forecasted to impact Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park this weekend, park officials announced Friday.

Park officials say, starting Friday evening Sunday, the forecast calls for anywhere between 12 inches to 30 inches of snow in the Grant Forest and Grant Grove areas.

Delays, closures expected in areas of Sequoia National Park

The section of the General Highway between Sequoia and Kings Canyon will close on Friday at 4:30 p.m. and may not reopen by Sunday, park officials said.

Both park entrances and access to giant sequoias are expected to remain open throughout the weekend.

Park officials are urging visitors to drive cautiously and arrive prepared with chains and know how to install them on their vehicles. To learn more about winter driving in the parks, visit the national park’s website.
