Portuguese giants Sporting CP unveiled their latest signing - a five-year-old boy with cancer - in front of 30,000 fans at the Estadio Jose Alvalade.

The 18-times champions of Portugal and former European Cup winners gave the boy - known just as Francisco - a night to remember as they treated like a top-level superstar.

Fransisco was pictured in his club’s full kit shaking hands with president Bruno de Carvalho before giving two thumbs up to the camera at a press conference, just as any professional player would.

After the official announcement and full photoshoot, Francisco was then given the honour of kicking off the first match of the season - a pre-season friendly with Lyon.

The new signing, who even penned a real contract, walked out onto the pitch in the Portuguese capital to rapturous applause from the crowd.

"The club is 110 years old and it is with people like Francisco that we will easily last another 110."
