Foggy, winter-like start to Tuesday around Portland area

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Gray skies and cooler-than-average temperatures will make the fifth day of March feel more like the start of January.

Early morning lows in the 30s will help fog develop in some areas around Portland. Visibility has the potential to fall back to nearly a quarter mile in some locations Tuesday morning. The fog will slowly start to clear by the mid-morning hours as temperatures remain below average. Afternoon highs will only make it into the mid to upper 40s depending on how fast the fog clears.

The threat of lower-elevation snow clears as a drier weather pattern starts to take shape this week. Mostly dry skies will continue to sit over western Oregon and Washington through the end of the week. That also comes with a bit of a warming trend for our afternoons. Near-average temperatures are expected by the end of the week with highs returning to the mid-50s. Our mornings will stay frigid with the chance for frost developing on surfaces through Friday morning.

Another round of wet weather is expected to ramp up over the weekend and into next week. That’s where temperatures will fall back into the low 50s. Despite the drop in temperature, it will feel more spring-like next week due to the start of Daylight Saving Time. That will make Portland’s sunset occur during the 7 p.m. hour.
