Floyd & Green donates nearly $13,000 to local charities

Feb. 10—Floyd & Green Fine Jewelers of Aiken distributed nearly $13,000 to local charities Feb. 8, according to a news release.

The money was raised last November during the 22nd annual Weekend of Giving Back.

Each customer making a purchase had the opportunity to designate a charity to receive 10% of the money spent.

"I always run reports in January, and every year 95-97% of our business comes from Aiken," said Floyd & Green owner Tom Williams in a prepared statement. "We are honored to be a part of this community, and I feel very obligated to give back to the people who have given so much to us."

Ron Reynolds accepted a check on behalf of Brenda's Angels, an organization that assists pancreatic cancer patients.

"This is huge for us," he said. "We are so excited that we were chosen for this gift. It helps our local patients because all of the money we raise stays right here in Aiken County."

Ellen Luton, director of resource development for the United Way of Aiken County, said the donation it received would be "a tremendous help for our 45 critical need programs and our partner agencies.

"Because we are nonprofit, we greatly appreciate the support of the community and of businesses like Floyd & Green," she added.

Floyd & Green, which opened its doors in 1992, is at 515 Silver Bluff Road.
