Florida WR Antonio Callaway cited for pot possession
Florida wide receiver Antonio Callaway was cited for marijuana possession early Saturday morning.
According to Rivals’ InsideTheGators.com, Callaway and another man were cited just after midnight Saturday after they were pulled over for a seatbelt violation. Arraignment for both men is scheduled for June 6.
At about 12:40 a.m. last Saturday, Callaway, 20, and another man, Kendrick Williams, 40, was cited for possession of less than 20 grams of cannabis on a traffic stop for a seatbelt violation. Upon approaching their vehicle, a black Mercedes SUV, the Gainesville Police Department officer “smelled fresh cannabis,” according to the police report.
Callaway was Florida’s leading receiver in 2016. He had 54 catches for 721 yards and three touchdowns. He also served as Florida’s primary punt returner and returned one of his three kickoff returns for a score.
He was suspended from the team before the 2016 season because of a student conduct investigation that also involved former Florida quarterback Treon Harris. Per the arbiter in the case, Callaway was deemed to not be responsible for causing “physical injury, sexual assault and sexual misconduct.” He was reinstated in August.
