Florida Wildfire Forces Closure of Alligator Alley on I-75

A stretch of Alligator Alley along Florida’s Interstate 75 was closed on Tuesday, March 7, due to a wildfire burning close to the road in Collier County.

Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) said it expected the portion of the interstate between State Road 29 (Exit 80) and Golden Gate Parkway (Exit 105) to remain closed until Wednesday morning.

Lt. Gregory Bueno of the FHP tweeted that smoke had reduced visibility. He urged morning commuters to expect delays and recommended travel adjustments, according to The Sun Sentinal.

Collier County authorities said on Tuesday that the fire was covering 6,000 acres and was about 30 percent contained, and had burned two homes. Evacuation orders were in effect for several areas. Credit: Lt. Gregory Bueno via Storyful
