Florida wearing Hurricane Irma decals on helmets vs. Tennessee

Florida will recognize the victims of Hurricane Irma on Saturday when it hosts Tennessee with a helmet decal of the state of Florida.

“While we know how important it is for this campus and the Gainesville community to host a game, our thoughts and prayers continue to be with those that have been impacted by the storm, and we are thankful for the support Floridians have received during this time,” Florida athletic director Scott Stricklin said in a statement.

“After meeting with the City of Gainesville, campus officials and numerous staffing entities to discuss hosting the game, we are pleased that the Florida-Tennessee football game will take place in Gainesville Saturday as scheduled. There has been a tremendous amount of cooperation between local authorities, the Southeastern Conference and the Tennessee athletic program throughout this process and we are grateful for these strong partnerships.”

The 3:30 p.m. ET game is proceeding as scheduled. Saturday’s scheduled contest between Florida State and Miami was moved to Oct. 7. That game was easily able to be moved because both teams had off dates on Oct. 7. Had Florida and Tennessee needed to move their game it would have been a lot trickier. Florida is off Oct. 21 while Tennessee is off Oct. 7.

Florida’s Ben Hill Griffin Stadium did suffer some minor damage in the storm. The “O” in Florida as well as two “Ds” apparently came off the stadium in the storm. Yes, there are some easy “Florida doesn’t have any ‘O'” jokes to make.
