Florida State football to play in Cheez-It Bowl, will face Oklahoma Sooners

After a week of waiting, the Florida State football team finally knows its bowl destination.

The No. 13 Seminoles (9-3) will face the University of Oklahoma (6-6) in the Cheez-It Bowl, a Dec. 29 game at Camping World Stadium in Orlando (5:30 p.m. on ESPN).

FSU will be playing in its first bowl game since 2019.

Under third-year coach Mike Norvell, the Seminoles have enjoyed a resurgent season. With a victory over the Sooners, they would capture their first 10-win season since 2016. FSU has won five straight games, ending the regular season with a 45-38 victory over Florida.

OU has struggled under first-year coach Brent Venables.

With a loss to the Seminoles, the Sooners would finish the season below .500 for the first time since 1998. They only have one victory over an opponent with a winning record this season, dropping 7-5 Oklahoma State, 28-13, on Nov. 19.

OU leads 6-1 in its all-time series against FSU. The Sooners defeated the Seminoles, 23-13, in their last meeting on Sept. 17, 2011 in Tallahassee.
