Florida records 146,069 new COVID-19 cases, 771 deaths in 2 weeks

There were 146,069 new coronavirus cases recorded over the last two weeks among Florida residents, bringing the cumulative total to 6,640,046. With 771 more fatalities on record, 76,662 Florida residents have died.

The death total over the last two weeks reflect a decrease from the 795 reported in the two weeks prior, but deaths can take several days or weeks to be reported. Many newly reported deaths are of people who died before the last two weeks.

The number of cases over the last two weeks decreased compared to the 148,314 reported in the two weeks prior. Positivity increased from 19.4% to 21.1%. That’s for new cases only and excludes anyone who previously tested positive.

Of note, the state reports deal only with Florida resident cases and exclude non-residents cases, which are no longer available.

Across the state, 5,015 people were hospitalized with COVID-19 from July 6 to 12, according to the latest White House report. In comparison, 4,477 were hospitalized two weeks ago. Four weeks ago, it was 3,040.

Statewide, 15,900,810 residents, or 72% of people age 6 months and up, have received at least one vaccination shot, including 7,841,520 who have completed their shot regimens but not received an additional dose through July 14. Meanwhile, 48,617 received an additional dose this week, bringing the total to 5,871,227.

Central Florida added 28,723 resident infections over the last two weeks, based on the actual date the state opened the case, for a total of 1,302,967: 8,452 more in Orange for 426,024; 2,661 more in Osceola for 127,841; 5,685 more in Polk for 225,936; 2,004 more in Lake for 95,543; 707 more in Sumter for 25,219; 3,145 more in Volusia for 131,891; 3,597 more in Brevard for 153,217; and 2,472 more in Seminole for 117,296.
