Members of the Oak Hill Police Department held a traffic stop of an SUV on U.S. Route 19 on the evening of November 9, 2021, due to the SUV traveling 72 mph in a 55 mph area. During the traffic stop, Jarelle A. Pierre was identified as the driver, and officers discovered the smell of marijuana in the car.

After a drug-sniffing K-9 found controlled substances, officers searched the car and found three prescription pill bottles that showed Pierre had a prescription for oxycodone. In total, more than 300 oxycodone pills were found in the three pill bottles.

Officers discovered that the prescribed dosage on the bottles and the manufacturer information on the label did not match the pills inside. Upon further investigation, it was revealed that all of the pills would have been used if they were taken as directed according to the prescription and the date the prescriptions were filled.

Laboratory tests showed that more than 300 oxycodone pills were seized by officers during the traffic stop.
