Florida deputy accused of sexual assault held 2nd person against their will in patrol car: police

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A Florida deputy was accused of sexually assaulting someone and holding a second person against their will in his patrol car, threatening to arrest them if they did not perform sexual favors.

Volusia County Sheriff’s Office deputy Stephen Corbin, 40, was arrested by the Daytona Beach Police Department on Wednesday, according to a report from NBC affiliate WESH.

Police said a victim told them she was sexually assaulted on Monday. Their investigation led them to a second victim who claimed they also encountered Corbin on the same street that day.

Corbin was dressed in street clothes when he approached the second victim in his patrol car, according to investigators. The victim, whose name and gender were not released, alleged Corbin held them in the patrol car against their will and threatened them with arrest if they did not perform sexual favors.

The victim managed to escape the patrol car and called Daytona Beach police.

Corbin was charged with two counts of bribery, battery, false imprisonment and solicitation to commit prostitution. He is being held in jail without bond.

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office is cooperating with the investigation. Corbin was hired by the agency in 2015.

“To say I’m disappointed in his behavior is an understatement,” Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood said in a statement. “His actions not only discredit his own name, but tarnish the sheriff’s office badge and the reputation of our entire organization.”

Chitwood said Corbin no longer works for the sheriff’s office and “his badge will be melted down so it won’t represent this agency in the future.”
