Flood warning in effect in East Pierce County, trail closed
The city of Puyallup is under a flood watch and the Puyallup River in East Pierce County is under a flood warning as of 3 p.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service.
The flood warning for the Puyallup River will be in effect through Saturday morning.
The river will “cause flooding from Orting downstream through McMillan to Sumner with floodwaters inundating roads, residential areas and pasture lands,” according to the NWS.
Tonight there is a 30 percent chance of rain in the city, according to the forecast. Rain may continue on Saturday, with an 80 percent chance of precipitation. The city may get between a quarter and 0.5 inches of rain that same night.
The city announced Friday morning the closure of Riverwalk Trail due to the flood watch. The Puyallup Police Department has been reaching out to residents that are living in areas at risk of flooding, according to a Twitter post.

The NWS advises motorists to avoid flooded areas as most flood deaths happen in vehicles.
Other parts of western Washington are under a flood watch, which may last until Nov. 16. People living in areas at risk of flooding should be prepared to take action when necessary, according to the NWS.
