Flood, Ruml take out petitions to run for Mitchell Board of Education

Mar. 1—MITCHELL — The first nominating petitions to run for election to the Mitchell Board of Education in 2024 have been taken out.

Mitchell School District officials confirmed Friday that Shawn Ruml and Brittni Flood, both of whom currently serve on the board, picked up petitions to run for another term. March 1 is the first day potential candidates can begin circulating petitions.

Flood and Ruml occupy the only two seats up for election on the five-person board this year.

Those interested in becoming a candidate for the board can take out and return nomination petitions at the Mitchell School District business office, located 821 N. Capital Street in Mitchell. Petitions could be taken out starting March 1 and any taken out must be returned to the school business office no later than 4 p.m. March 29. The office is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Seats on the Mitchell Board of Education are at-large bids and are for three-year terms. Those who file a valid nominating petition will appear on the ballot for the race at the June 4 joint election with the city of Mitchell.

Other members of the Mitchell Board of Education include Terry Aslesen, Deb Olson and Deb Everson.
