Flight returns to Albany, NY, after smoke report

Report of smoke in restroom forces Dulles-bound United flight to return to Albany, NY

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) -- Authorities say a passenger jet bound for the Washington, D.C., area turned back to Albany, N.Y., after smoke was reported in one of the restrooms.

Doug Myers, spokesman for Albany International Airport, says United Flight 3739 landed safely. The emergency was reported just after 3:30 p.m. Friday.

There were no injuries among the 65 passengers and crew who were headed from Albany to Dulles International Airport in northern Virginia.

Myers says a smoke detector in one of the restrooms triggered. Investigators are trying to determine the source of the smoke.
