RICHMOND, Va. (WFXR) — Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin has issued a flag order in honor of Peace Officers’ Memorial Day, May 15.

On this day, law enforcement agencies across the country honor officers who have fallen or been disabled in the line of duty.

Starting at sunrise on May 15, all United States and Virginia flags on state and local buildings will be flown at half-staff. Both flags will remain in position until sunset.

Peach Officers’ Memorial Day was first observed when former President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation designating May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day in 1962. This day also falls on National Police Week.

We honor the law enforcement officers who have fallen in the line of duty and recognize their sacrifices, as well as the hardship and loss suffered by the families of those fallen officers,”
