WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. - A woman from Florida is hoping for less than life in prison in the killings of her husband and mother-in-law.
Narcy Novack of Fort Lauderdale and her brother, Cristobal Veliz of Brooklyn, are to be sentenced Monday morning in federal court in White Plains, N.Y.
They were convicted in June of hiring hit men to carry out the 2009 beating deaths of Ben Novack Jr. in New York and Bernice Novack in Florida. Ben Novack was the son of the man who built the Fontainebleau hotel in Miami Beach.
Prosecutors say both deserve life sentences. But Narcy Novack's attorney says justice would be served with a sentence capped at 27 years.
He says she would be old and poor, but would have a chance at reforming her ways.
