Why all five English clubs will proceed to the Champions League quarter-finals

For the first time in Champions League history, one nation will be providing five teams in the Round of 16.

In recent seasons, Premier League sides have not fared well in the latter stages of Europe’s premier competition, but this could be the campaign in which the hegemony of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich is finally broken.

Not only are Manchester City favourites to win the competition with the bookmakers, but Tottenham managed to finish above reigning champions Real Madrid in their group. Manchester United and Chelsea boast the pedigree required to progress, while Liverpool are a side designed to thrive on big nights in cup competitions.

It is this writer’s belief that all five English sides will be present in the draw for the quarter-finals.
