First round of voting results show support of recalling Woodland school board member

(FOX40.COM) — Early voting results show that voters are in favor of recalling a Woodland school board trustee who made comments about transgender people at a school board meeting.

According to the Yolo County elections office, 60.61% of voters support the recall of Emily MacDonald from Woodland Joint Unified High School District board of trustees. Only 39.39% are opposed of the recall.

MacDonald was elected to the board’s Area Two trustee to a four-year term in 2022.

The recall effort was organized after MacDonald made comments about transgender people at a June school board meeting where an agenda item regarding Pride Month was discussed.

“While I share with everyone here enormous respect for the achievements and contributions of Americans who are lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender, this coalition forces acceptance of every aspect of transgenderism in order to be considered an ally of the others and that is wrong,” MacDonald said at a June 15, 2023 meeting.

“We must act with great caution in order to protect the increasing number of children who are experiencing transgender procedures as a result of social contagion,” MacDonald continued.

The recall made it onto the ballot after it was approved for circulation in September and supporters submitting 1,349 petition signatures on Nov. 3.
