RESULTS: First-ever PIAA girls Individual Wrestling State Championships underway

HERSHEY, Pa. (WHTM) – The PIAA sanctioned girls wrestling in May of 2023 and now the inaugural PIAA girls Individual Wrestling State Championships are finally here.

The historic event started today, March 7, at the Giant Center and will run until Sunday. This comes after the first District III girls wrestling tournament was held at Penn Manor High School last Saturday, March 2.

The girls from District III who won their class at districts and will be competing at the Giant Center are as follows:

100 — Jocelyn Fishel (Cumberland Valley)

106 — Isabelle Wilkes (Hamburg)

112 — Kylee Trostle (ELCO)

118 — Kallie Bower (Mechanicsburg)

124 — Eliana White-Vega (Cumberland Valley)

130 — Shannon Govern (Hamburg)

136 — Kayley Weidner (Schuylkill Valley)

235 — Kayla Henderson (South Western)

In total, 208 female wrestlers will be competing for a shot at the first-ever titles. 16 girls will go head to head in each of the 13 weight classes.

These girls have fought to stand on these mats at the Giant Center to represent their schools and the moment is finally here. In March 2020, J.P. McCaskey became the first high school in Pennsylvania to sponsor a girl’s team, with Pennsylvania becoming the 38th state to sanction girls’ wrestling. Before then, girls had to compete on boy’s teams.
