First day of 2024-25 school year could shift for JCPS students, new draft calendar shows

Students in Jefferson County Public Schools may start a day later than anticipated next school year, according to a new draft of the 2024-25 school calendar obtained by The Courier Journal.

According to the new draft calendar, the first day of school for students will be Aug. 8 if approved at the next JCPS board meeting on Tuesday. The last day of the school year for students remains May 22, 2025.

The district has designated seven days for make-up classes — May 27-30 and June 2-4 — less than what was designated for the current school year.

The JCPS school board previously voted to approve an earlier version of the draft calendar in 2022.
