Fires continue across multiple Mountain State counties

GHENT, WV (WVNS) — Fires continue to burn across southern West Virginia counties.

According to the West Virginia Division of Forestry, the fire around Spruce Mountain in Raleigh County is approximately 50 acres. Members of the West Virginia Division of Forestry are working on getting containment lines around the fire.

Brush fires continue to blaze across southern West Virginia

Crews are also working on getting containment lines around the fire near Welch Pineville Road in Wyoming County. A member of the West Virginia Division of Forestry stated that the fire is around 175 acres.

According to the West Virginia Division of Forestry, as of Spring 2024 there have been approximately 73 fires in Region 4, which includes Mercer, McDowell, Wyoming, Raleigh, Fayette, Summers, Greenbrier, and Monroe counties. They also stated that the fires have burned more than 1,500 acres.
