The cause of the fire appears to have been a faulty chimney, according to Springfield Fire Rescue Division. Officials also said squatters appeared to be involved.

“Appears to be squatters utilizing a fireplace which caught the roof (of the) structure on fire,” Brian Leciejewski, Assistant Chief of Administration for Springfield Fire Rescue Division, said.

The fire caused approximately $30,000 in damages to the home.

No injuries were reported.
