Firefighters save Christmas yet again for Bakersfield's underserved

Dec. 24—The Bakersfield Fire Department carried on a 38-year-old tradition Sunday morning by delivering thousands of dollars' worth of stuffed animals, games, sports equipment and candy to children and families who might otherwise have gone without.

More than a dozen firefighters and their families formed a caravan that stopped at several destinations around town, where they were welcomed by beaming parents and children grateful to receive armloads of gifts.
