Firefighters rescue victim trapped in Adams County wreck

One victim was cut out of a vehicle by firefighters after a crash in Adams County Wednesday morning.

Firefighters were called to the scene on the 200 block of Boyds School Road in Cumberland Township around 10:04 a.m. on Wednesday, May 15, according to a release by the Gettysburg Fire Department.

Upon arrival, firefighters found one subject trapped in a pick-up truck that had struck a tree and was resting on top of a guide rail, according to the release.

EMS personnel from Adams Regional EMS began caring for the victim while firefighters worked to remove the victim from the vehicle. Freeing the victim from the crumpled vehicle took roughly 40 minutes, the release said.

While air medical helicopters were not available due to weather, dispatch records show, a flight crew from a medical helicopter was transported to the scene by a ground ambulance to assist with patient care, according to the release.

The patient was transported in a ground ambulance to a local trauma center in the care of EMS personnel and the flight crew, the release said.

Cumberland Township police are the investigating agency for the crash.

United Hook & Ladder assisted Gettysburg Fire Department with freeing the victim.
