Firefighters douse flames in woods near Kansas River bridge in Topeka

TOPEKA (KSNT) – Fire crews put out a fire near a Topeka bridge on the north side of the Kansas River on Tuesday.

A 27 News reporter says the Topeka Fire Department (TFD) are beneath the Sardou Bridge leading into the Oakland neighborhood on March 12 responding to a fire in a wooded area. The scene is clear as of 2:10 p.m.

City of Topeka spokeswoman Rosie Nichols said the TFD received a call around 10:15 a.m. about a grass fire in the 500 block of NE Sardou Avenue. Fire crews found heavy smoke and flames coming from the area. No injuries were reported in connection to the fire and the nearby bridge was not impacted.
