Firefighters battle Bath Township house fire

Jan. 31—BATH TOWNSHIP — Firefighters from Bath Township, Perry Township, American Township and the city of Lima battled a house fire Wednesday afternoon.

According to a statement from Bath Township Fire Chief Joe Kitchen, his department, shortly before 2 p.m. Wednesday, received a report of a house on fire at 2525 Harding Highway.

The Lima, Perry Township and American Township fire departments responded for mutual aid.

Upon arrival the fire was well advanced, and the first floor had partially collapsed, prohibiting firefighters from making entry, Kitchen said.

According to the Allen County Auditor's Office, the home is owned by Allentown LLC. The fire department reported it was owned by C&C Property Management of Lima and was believed to be unoccupied.

The damage to the home, built in 1920, was estimated at approximately $25,000. The three-story, 3,200 square foot home had a large amount of personal items throughout the structure, Kitchen said.

There were no injuries to residents or firefighters, who were still on scene as of 8:50 p.m. Wednesday, Kitchen said.
